A rolling, syncopated bassline built entirely from the onboard arpeggiator running a simple root-octave-fifth shape — the rhythmic movement comes from the arp engine itself, not manual step programming, so a single held chord produces a full moving bassline.
Open this patch in the interactive PatchpadHold a root+octave+fifth chord (three trig notes on one step, or three separate note trigs on the track) and the ARPEGGIATOR menu does the rest — MODE UP walks the held notes low to high, RANGE 1 keeps it inside the played chord rather than stacking extra octaves on top, and short N.LEN gives each arpeggiated note a clipped, percussive bass character. Press [ARPEGGIATOR] to open the menu; the arp is per-preset, so it travels with the sound. ALGO 1 routes operator A (and B) into carrier C, so LEV (A) and LEV (B) are set to 0 on SYN page 2 and MIX is -64 (the X output, C only): that leaves C a plain, unmodulated carrier.
Syntakt has no general per-track arpeggiator — this uses SY CHIP, a Digital machine whose whole design is an internal note-cycler, as the honest real substitute. OF2 (12 semitones = octave) and OF3 (19 semitones = octave+fifth) set the chord shape against TUNE's root; OF4 left at 0 restarts the cycle rather than adding a fourth note. SPD syncs the cycling rate to the sequencer. This is a genuinely different mechanism from a true track-wide arpeggiator (it only works because SY CHIP is specifically built around it), not an equivalent feature available on other Syntakt machines.
Real, dedicated Arpeggiator section — hold a root+fifth on the keys, Type Up walks them low-to-high, and Octaves 2 doubles the whole pattern up an octave automatically, giving the root-octave-fifth shape from just a two-note chord. Rhythm 5 introduces mild syncopation over a plain quarter-note pulse; press Arp On to engage. Live control: turn the panel Arp Rhythm knob to swap patterns; the Mod Wheel opens the filter through Mod Matrix slot 1.
Osc 1 is BasicWaves with Morph at 50 (pure sawtooth): the Morph knob runs from a square (0) through a sawtooth (50) to a double sawtooth an octave up (100), Sym only changes the pulse width below 50, and Sub adds a sine an octave down (0 here). Gate at 70% keeps the notes short and punchy rather than legato. Values are on MiniFreak's native 0-100 scale.
Typhon has no arpeggiator, but it has a real note sequencer (SQNCR button: 1 to 32 steps over a 6-octave range, with per-step octave, note, gate, velocity, plus probability, division and swing). Program the pattern's notes directly instead of holding a chord. Steps 1-2 C (OCV +1), 3-4 C (OCV +2), 5-6 G (OCV +2), 7-8 C (OCV +1): the root-octave-fifth shape. The Filter and Amp ADSR and the front-panel settings shape each note.
Hold [SHIFT]+[ON] to enter Arp Edit mode. Mode Up plus Octave Mode Up with Range 2 repeats a held root+fifth chord an octave higher, producing the root-octave-fifth shape automatically. Gate 75% keeps each note short and defined rather than overlapping into the next.
Digitone II, Novation Summit, Arturia MiniFreak, and ASM Hydrasynth Desktop all have a real dedicated arpeggiator and realize this concept directly. Syntakt has no general arpeggiator — SY CHIP's built-in note-cycling stands in, a genuinely different mechanism only available on that one machine. Dreadbox Typhon has no arpeggiator at all — its M-slot StepSequencer is used as an honest hand-programmed substitute instead.
