Field-Recording Texture FX

Sounds like: A quiet, organic, ever-shifting background atmosphere.

Sound type: fx · Genre: Experimental, Ambient · Style: organic ambient texture suggesting a processed environmental recording

A continuous, quiet, organic-feeling texture — the FX-section counterpart to Field-Recording-Adjacent Textural Pad, meant as sustained atmosphere rather than a played melodic pad.

ALGO 8 with MIX -64 selects the X output (Operator A modulating Operator C, plus B2 as a plain carrier) -- RATIO A 1.41 (non-integer) gives the modulator a slightly inharmonic, organic color rather than a clean musical interval. MOD page 1 and MOD page 2 are Digitone II's two independent LFOs -- deliberately unsynced, non-matching SPD values (12 vs. 19) so their combined movement never repeats in an obvious loop, matching the brief's 'non-repeating, organic' character. FLTR TYPE at 64 sits at the LP/BP/HP morph's midpoint for a bandpass-like character, high RESO reinforces the peak. Corrected: MOD page 2 used to target 'Pitch' (an invented destination — Digitone II's FM TONE machine has no pitch destination for its LFOs). It now modulates RATIO A, the modulator's frequency ratio: at this small DEP it slowly shifts the inharmonic partial spacing, which is the closest FM TONE gets to 'pitch that never quite settles' (it moves the timbre, not the fundamental). For a true pitch-drift layer, WAVETONE's DRIF parameter is the native option on another machine.

SY RAW's Asym Sine gives a slightly uneven, organic waveform with a touch of NLEV noise blended in underneath -- DET adds a small amount of built-in detune spread. Syntakt's digital-voice tracks (1-8) only offer Lowpass/Highpass/EQ/OFF on FLTR PAGE 1, no true Bandpass -- RESO is pushed high on a Lowpass instead to approximate a narrow, peaky band. AMP PAGE 2's MODE must be ADSR (not the AHD default) so the long attack/sustain shape on AMP PAGE 1 actually holds. LFO PAGE 1 and LFO PAGE 2 run at deliberately different, unsynced SPD values -- Syntakt genuinely has two independent LFOs per audio track (corrected 2026-09-06; this project's docs used to say one), so both routes run simultaneously without any workaround. Corrected: this LFO used to target an invented 'Pitch' destination — Syntakt's LFO destination list (manual Appendix C) has no direct pitch option, so it now targets the machine's own TUNE knob (parameter 1), the real route to pitch modulation. (For hard one-shot pitch falls Syntakt also has native sweeps: BD MODERN's SWEP sets pitch-sweep depth and time.)

EFFECTS

FILTER's SHAPE is set directly to BP -- a real, always-available filter shape on Summit, no approximation needed. LFO 1's destination is hardwired to filter cutoff and LFO 2's to oscillator pitch (both via their own section's Depth knob, per Summit's panel design) -- no Mod Matrix routing required, unlike the other synths in this patch. LFO 1 and LFO 2's RATE values are deliberately unmatched and unsynced so the combined movement never falls into an obvious repeating loop.

MODULATION MATRIX

Osc 1 is Harmo, an additive engine: Wave is Content (the harmonic table), Timbre is Sculpting and Shape adds chorus. LFO 1 runs a Tri wave at 0.7 Hz. LFO 2 runs a Tri wave at 1.2 Hz. Mod Matrix: the LFO 1 row to the Cutoff column at +40. Mod Matrix: the LFO 2 row to the Pitch 1+2 column at +10. LFO1 and LFO2 are MiniFreak's two real per-voice LFOs, which is what genuinely allows two independent, differently-rated modulation sources here (RATE 12 vs. 19, deliberately unsynced) -- a direct match for the 'two independent LFOs at different rates' idea used across this patch's other synths. Values are on MiniFreak's native 0-100 scale.

FILTER ADSR

AMP ADSR

M1

Typhon's two VCOs are blended and detuned via the single WAVE knob rather than two independent oscillator objects, so the width comes from that blend plus TUNE 2 rather than a separate detune parameter. Only one of Typhon's three modulator slots (M1) is used here -- a single LFO on cutoff still captures most of this patch's slow-moving intent, since Typhon doesn't have a second independent per-voice LFO the way Digitone II/Summit/Syntakt do. FILTER TIME and AMP TIME are both set slow on the FRONT PANEL so the real ADSR values on the FILTER ADSR/AMP ADSR pages play back at their intended long, unhurried speed rather than being sped up by the overall multiplier.

REVERB

OSC 1 runs in WaveScan mode, drifting slowly through its Wavelist for a non-repeating, organic evolving texture rather than a static tone. This patch uses Filter 2 (a real 2-pole state-variable filter with a continuous LP-BP-HP MORPH) instead of Filter 1, since Filter 2's Band Pass character is set directly via MORPH=64 (Filter 1 has BP types too, but no continuous morph). LFO 1 is pre-wired to Filter 1/2's cutoff (its LFO 1 AMOUNT knob), so that route needs no Mod Matrix entry; oscillator pitch isn't pre-wired to any LFO, so a free-assign LFO 3 is routed to OSC 1 Pitch via the Mod Matrix instead, at a different unsynced rate from LFO 1. Reverb is a genuine always-on module here, separate from Pre/Post-FX, pushed up per the brief.

How the synths compare

Close sibling of Field-Recording-Adjacent Textural Pad, voiced as a background FX layer — same dual-unsynced-LFO technique for a non-repeating, organic-feeling movement.
