Techno Percussive Sweep FX

Sounds like: A rhythmic, mechanical filter sweep that pulses with the beat.

Sound type: fx · Genre: Techno · Style: rhythmic filter-sweep FX synced tightly to the beat grid

A tempo-synced filter sweep applied to a rhythmic, repeated hit rather than a single long note — reads as a driving, mechanical rhythmic element rather than a smooth transition sweep.

ALGO 8 with MIX -64 selects the X output (Operator A modulating Operator C, plus B2 as a plain carrier) -- the confirmed real single-modulator chain (see the ALGO reference in this project's conventions) for a simple, percussive carrier. FLTR page 1's own ATK/DEC/SUS/REL gives the fast per-hit filter movement, while MOD page 1 layers a slower tempo-following build on top: WAVE Ramp with MODE FREE keeps it running continuously (rather than resetting on every repeated trig) and SPD tries 8/16/32 to sync to straight multi-bar lengths.

LFO PAGE 1

SY RAW's plain dual-Saw waveforms give a simple, punchy carrier for the repeated hit. FLTR PAGE 1's own envelope gives the fast per-hit filter movement, while LFO PAGE 1 layers a slower tempo-following build on top -- WAVE Ramp with MODE FREE runs continuously across the phrase rather than resetting on every repeated trig, and SPD tries 8/16/32 to sync to straight multi-bar lengths.

LFO 1

LFO 1's destination is hardwired to filter frequency via the FILTER page's own LFO 1 DEPTH knob -- no Mod Matrix routing needed. Setting LFO 1's waveform to Ramp and its sync rate to a multi-bar division gives the slower tempo-following build, layered on top of the FILTER section's own Amp-Env-sourced per-hit movement (ENV DEPTH) for the fast per-hit punch.

MODULATION MATRIX

Osc 1 is BasicWaves with Morph at 50 (pure sawtooth): the Morph knob runs from a square (0) through a sawtooth (50) to a double sawtooth an octave up (100), Sym only changes the pulse width below 50, and Sub adds a sine an octave down (0 here). LFO 2 runs a Saw wave at Sync 8 bars. Mod Matrix: the LFO 2 row to the Cutoff column at +60. These are genuinely two independent modulation sources here, not one LFO doing double duty. Values are on MiniFreak's native 0-100 scale.

FILTER ADSR

AMP ADSR

M1

FILTER ADSR gives the fast per-hit filter movement on the repeated trig; M1 in LFO mode with a slow RATE and Trapezoid wave (the closest of Typhon's LFO shapes to a smooth ramp/build) layers a slower tempo-following build on top, routed to CUT. Typhon's LFO rate isn't MIDI-clock-synced the way Elektron/Summit gear is, so RATE has to be set by ear to approximate the intended multi-bar length rather than picked from a note-division menu.

MOD MATRIX

Envelope 1 (pre-wired to Filter 1) gives the fast per-hit filter movement on the repeated trig. LFO 1 is also pre-wired to Filter 1, but its amount is left at 0 here in favor of a free-assign LFO 3 routed through the Mod Matrix -- LFO 3's BPM-synced Saw Up wave gives the slower multi-bar build, riding independently on top of Envelope 1's fast per-hit sweep.

How the synths compare

The key difference from a plain filter sweep is tempo sync and a repeated/rhythmic source rather than one long note — this should feel driving and mechanical, not smooth.
