Sounds like: A short pluck whose tone changes shape as the note fades.
A short pluck where the wavetable position sweeps rapidly within the note's own decay — the timbre itself changes shape as the note fades, rather than staying static.
Open this patch in the interactive PatchpadDigitone II's WAVETONE machine (select with FUNC+SYN). TBL1 is HARM and MOD page 1 is a one-shot (MODE ONE) Exponential LFO on WAV1, so on each note the wavetable position sweeps quickly and settles as the note decays, the timbre changing shape within the note itself.
SY CHORD's WAVE parameter sweeps through the machine's wavetable. A one-shot LFO (MODE ONE) on WAVE makes the position sweep on each note and settle as it decays, so the timbre changes within the note. TYPE Unison × 2 with a low BAL keeps it to a single voice with slight unison detune.
Summit has real wavetables: OSCILLATOR 1's WAVE set to More opens the wavetable list, and WAVEMORE picks the table by name (the manual lists 60, for example Swell, Zing, Harsh, Glassy and Choral). SHAPE with SOURCE Mod Env 1 sweeps the table with the fast Mod Envelope 1 (the same envelope that closes the filter), so the wavetable position moves within each note's decay.
Osc 1 is Harmo, an additive engine: Wave is Content (the harmonic table), Timbre is Sculpting and Shape adds chorus. Osc 2 is the Chords engine (Osc 2 only): Interval is Octave (the least intrusive chord), Inv/Trsp is 0, and its Waveform knob (the panel Shape knob) above 50 is a wavetable that morphs between 16 waveforms. Chords cannot be used in Paraphonic mode. Mod Matrix: the Envelope row to the Assign 1: Osc 2 Shape column (hold an Assign button and turn that control to assign it) at +90. Values are on MiniFreak's native 0-100 scale.
Typhon has no wavetable or digital timbre-morphing oscillator, so a fast, strong filter-envelope sweep (EG LEVEL pushed, fast FILTER TIME) approximates the shifting-timbre effect -- a simpler substitute than the digital synths in this family. Front-panel knobs are physically unmarked, so WAVE/CUTOFF/RESON/EG LEVEL/FILTER TIME/AMP TIME are described by clock position, not a percentage.
This is the most literal translation of this patch in the whole library -- OSCILLATOR 1's WaveScan mode has a real, continuously variable WAVESCAN position (1.0-8.0) across an 8-slot Wavelist, and Envelope 3 (a free-assign envelope) routed to it via the Mod Matrix sweeps that position across the note's own decay, a genuine wavetable-style timbre morph rather than an approximation via filter movement or FM modulator decay. Filter 1's own Env 1 Amount is left at 0 since the oscillator itself carries the timbre movement.
A short-envelope sibling of Evolving Wavetable Pad — same core technique (envelope-to-wavetable-position), compressed into a pluck's timescale. Real wavetables on Digitone II, Syntakt, Summit, MiniFreak (Chords engine) and Hydrasynth; Typhon substitutes a filter-envelope sweep.
